ASUU says UTAS salary platform scored 77% in integrity test

ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has denied alleged failure of its proposed University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS), by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA). ASUU President, Mr Emmauel Osodeke, said this in a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday in Abuja. Osodeke was reacting to recent statements credited to both the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy and Director-General, NITDA that UTAS had failed the integrity test. “This press statement is necessitated by the need for ASUU to put the records straight on the grounds already covered in our patriotic struggle to get the government to deploy UTAS as a suitable solution for salary payment in our university system. “Let us put it on record that an integrity test was carried out by NITDA on Aug. 10, 2021 in NUC where relevant government agencies and all the end-users in the University system were present. “At the end of the ...

ASUU declares indefinite strike, plans increased media engagement

ASUU President, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke The Academic Staff Union of Universities has declared a total and indefinite strike. The decision was taken at a meeting of the union’s National Executive Council held on Sunday in Abuja. The PUNCH  reports that the union started its ongoing strike on February 14, 2022. The strike is in protest against the government’s failure to release revitalisation funds for universities, failure to release the white paper report of the visitation panel to universities and the failure to deploy the University Transparency Accountability System for the payment of salaries and allowances of lecturers. The union’s President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, disclosed the outcome of the NEC meeting in a statement on Monday titled, ‘ASUU strikes are to save public universities.’ In the statement, Osodeke said the NEC regretted that the union had experienced deceit of the highest level for over five years, adding that the government engaged ASUU in fruitless and unending ...

The United Kingdom government has finally accepted Nigeria’s classification of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as a terrorist organisation. Following widespread killings and acts of lawlessness, the Nigerian government designated IPOB a terrorist group in 2017.
