Flood wreaks havoc  in Imo, victims seek help

Erosion has caused massive destruction in Okai village, Eziama community in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.

Eziama is the hometown of a former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Collins Chiji.

The erosion was caused by heavy rainfall witnessed in the state on Monday.

One of the victims of the flood, Emmanuel Nwike, said his house, shop and other property were affected.

He added that a motorcycle was carried away by the erosion.

Nwike stated, “Our house, my shop and the whole of the Okai village in Eziama has been overrun by erosion. There is no government help forthcoming but tomorrow, we will be asked to vote for them in an election. People are stranded as I speak to you. The destruction was massive.”

Our correspondent saw a video footage where the flood was seen sweeping away people’s property.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Bauchi command, says 20 people were killed in an auto crash which occurred in Ganjuwa LGA of the state on Tuesday.

According to NAN, Yusuf Abdullahi, public relations officer of the command, said the accident involved a commercial Golf 3 bus and a Sharon Volkswagen vehicle.

The accident occurred at Huturu village on the Bauchi-Kano road at about 11:30am.

The Bauchi FRSC command spokesperson added that it took corps personnel about 12 minutes to arrive the scene of the incident.

“Twenty-one people were involved in the crash, and there were 12 male adults, five female adults, one male child and three female children,” he said.

“Eleven male adults, five female adults, one male child and three female children lost their lives to the crash, and one male adult is still receiving treatment.”

He said the cause of the accident was speed violation and dangerous driving.

Three dead, 19 injured in Taraba pub blast

Three persons were confirmed dead yesterday evening while 19 were injured at a pub in Iware, Ardo Kola council of Taraba State when a bomb exploded there.

Police said two persons pretending to have come for a drink, dropped a black polythene bag at the pub before leaving.

“After they were served, the one holding the bag containing the bomb dropped his beer and the polythene bag and left. The accomplice then said he was going to look for his friend and would come back.

“After leaving, the bomb exploded and many people were injured while some others were killed.” a source said.

It was learnt that one of the culprits was apprehended and killed by a mob.

Five wedding guests abducted in Anambra

Five persons have been abducted by gunmen in Akpo community of Aguata council of Anambra State.

They were returning from a traditional marriage ceremony of a cousin to the Commissioner for Special duties, Sly Ezeokenwa, when they were taken away at gunpoint.

The five persons were abducted at about 10pm, the commissioner said in a text nessage, adding that no contact had been established with them or their abductors.

Ezeokenwa wrote: “The following friends of my cousin: Sampson Okafor, Chidozie Eze, Franklin Osuagu, Chijioke Uduba, Benedict Ozoagwu, who visited for his traditional marriage yesterday (Monday) were kidnapped at gunpoint at about 10pm…in Udo Village, Akpo (Aguata LGA).”

Police spokesman Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the incident, saying a rescue operation had been launched
