EFCC Finally Arrests Rochas Okorocha, EFCC Declare Rivers AG; Others Wanted For N435bn Fraud


The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has finally arrested Rochas Okorocha, an All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential aspirant.

EFCC picked up Okorocha from his residence in the Maitama area of Abuja on Tuesday evening.

The anti-graft agency had earlier invaded the residence of the former Imo State governor in an attempt to arrest him.

EFCC declares Rivers Accountant-General, others wanted for N435bn fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has declared the Rivers State Accountant-General, Fubara Siminayi, and 58 others wanted for N435 billion fraud.

Seminary, and four other Rivers State government officials, among others, are wanted for suspected N117 billion fraud, alleged criminal conspiracy, money laundering, misappropriation of public funds, and abuse of office. The EFCC stated in a statement sighted by The PUNCH.

The Commission’s Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, called on the general public to assist in apprehending the Accountant-General and other suspects.

BREAKING: APC adjusts timetable for governorship, assemblies primaries

There was confusion at the national secretariat of the All Progressives Congress on Tuesday when the National Working Committee released yet another revised timetable and schedule of activities for the Governorship, State House of Assembly, Senate, and House of Representatives Primary Elections.

The new schedule, which comes a day after the party adjusted the old timetable, had a slight alteration in the dates.

Unlike in the previous schedule of activities, the primary for the 340 senatorial aspirants that were slated for Friday, May 27 would now hold on Saturday, May 28.

Yusuf defeated Melaye, who represented Kogi West in the 8th Assembly with 163 votes as against 99 votes polled by Melaye.

In a rerun election held Tuesday in Kaba, following a tied result of 88 votes apiece for the duo of TJ Yusuf and Dino Melaye after Monday’s delegates election.

Russia says it has completed demining of Azov Sea port of Mariupol

Russian forces have completed removing mines in the Azov Sea port of Mariupol, the defense ministry said on Tuesday.

Mines have been removed from the territory of the port and nearby waters, the ministry added in a statement.

Russia said it had established full control of Mariupol last week after Ukrainian fighters surrendered at the besieged Azovstal steelworks where they had held out for many weeks.
