State Police: Why The Presidency Should Consider What Obasanjo Suggested
Olusegun Obasanjo, the country's former president, was analysing the circumstances in the country, particularly instability across the country, when he proposed that Nigeria now requires state policing. Because of the escalating insecurity around the country, the reason isn't far-fetched. He stated that Nigeria's police force is inadequate. When President Femi Adesina's media aide appeared on channel TV, they asked him about it. Femi Adesina believes the ex-president is correct in his thinking.

He also chastised the ex-president for having the potential to restructure the country during his presidency but failing to do so, as well as for having the opportunity to establish state police during his presidency but failing to do so. Obasanjo's statement is merely a hint to the current administration about what we require. They should not see it as an attack on the government because it does not criticise it in any manner. Given the current status of the country, I believe state police will be able to cope with all of the threats that are present in our communities.

Every item of advise or tip from Nigerians should not be interpreted as political. They must think outside the box. Restructuring has not been taken seriously by the current administration. They believe that amending the constitution is preferable to coming together as a nation and developing a new constitution that is fair to all Nigerians.
Remember that a Nigerian Senior Advocate, Afe Babalola, urged that the upcoming election in 2023 be postponed in efforts to reestablish a new constitution after an interim administration has been established. Despite the response, Mr. Femi Adeshina should view the former president's statement as just counsel, which we must carefully consider if we are to put an end to the insurgency and banditry in the north and across the country.
