Strike continues as ASUU NEC fails to suspend action

The industrial action by members of the Academic Sftaff Union of Universities, ASUU, will continue as members of the National Executive Council, NEC, of the union did not consider the option of suspending the action at its meeting which ended in the early hours of Monday in Abuja. Checks by Vanguard showed that the national leadership of the union only briefed the meeting on their interactions and submissions made to the Prof. Nimi Briggs Committee set up the Federal Government to renegotiate the 2009 Agreement with the union. A source said the leadership also told the meeting about the intervention of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, in the matter and the subsequent nationwide solidarity rallies held by the Congress and its affiliates last week. “Since there is no sign of any serious commitment on the part of the government, there was no need for the NEC to consider suspending the strike. Osun 2022: Election Observers advised against compromise, fake election reports

This appeal formed part of the message of Faith Nwadishi, the Executive Director of the Center for Transparency Advocacy, (CTA) at a training session for election observers in Osogbo on Thursday. Nwadishi, who pointed out that observers need not be biased, submitted that any observer with an affiliation to political parties could not be objective, but would make reports in favour of the party they belonged to. ASUU says UTAS salary platform scored 77% in integrity test

ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has denied alleged failure of its proposed University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS), by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA). ASUU President, Mr Emmauel Osodeke, said this in a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday in Abuja. Osodeke was reacting to recent statements credited to both the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy and Director-General, NITDA that UTAS had failed the integrity test. “This press statement is necessitated by the need for ASUU to put the records straight on the grounds already covered in our patriotic struggle to get the government to deploy UTAS as a suitable solution for salary payment in our university system. “Let us put it on record that an integrity test was carried out by NITDA on Aug. 10, 2021 in NUC where relevant government agencies and all the end-users in the University system were present. “At the end of the ...
