Warmer autumns could spell bad news for butterflies, suggests study

Credit: Unsplash/CC0 Public Domain New research finds that longer and warmer autumns make it less likely that green-veined white butterflies will survive winter to emerge in spring. The findings are published in the British Ecological Society journal,  Functional Ecology . warmer and longer autumn conditions lost more weight and used more energy than those exposed to milder conditions. Although the butterflies didn't die immediately under the more elevated conditions, the researchers found that those that experienced them were less likely to survive to adulthood the following spring. Dr. Matthew Nielsen at the University of Oulu, who conducted the research at Stockholm University, said: "Climate change is making autumns warmer and last longer, and it was this specific combination of conditions that had the greatest impact on the butterflies in our study. A 19-year-old suspected internet fraudster, Emmanuel David has confessed that he used the proceeds of his internet fraud scam to pay for his post-University Matriculation Test Examination expenses. David, who was nabbed by the Osun State Police Command, alongside two other teenagers, Chibuike Godspower, 16, and Jesse Izedi, 16, also claimed that he was caught in his first deal worth N315,000. Emmanuel disclosed that he withdrew the money from the online Union-direct account of his Facebook friend, who operated a Point Of Sales, POS terminal. According to him, “The victim has a Union bank account, but being a POS operator, he also has a Union direct account, hence, I moved the money from the account to Godspower’s online account after Jedi guessed the victim’s password. “I used the money to travel to Calabar in Cross River State for my post-UTME in February this year and also paid for my accommodation from the proceeds.” Meanwhile, one of his accomplices said he was given N10,000 from t...

The popular Nigerian Pastor and founder of Omega Power Ministries, Pastor Chibuzor Gift Chinyere had said he received an international call, not too long ago, that he should stop sponsoring poor children to overseas for scholarships. He took to his social media page to make this known. The popular philanthropist and Pastor said, he got a call from an international number that he should stop sending people to go and study overseas. When he asked the caller why made such statement, he said the caller replied that " the overseas University are meant for the rich and now making it easy for the poor".
