Why we arrested Willie Obiano – EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has revealed why it arrested the immediate past Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano.

DAILY POST had reported that the former governor was nabbed by the anti-graft agency on Thursday night at the Lagos International Airport, on his way out of the country.

The development came just a few hours after he handed over power to the new Governor of the State, Chukwuma Charles Soludo.

Speaking with BBC Pidgin, the Public Relations Officer of the commission, Wilson Uwajaren confirmed the arrest.

According to the commission’s spokesman, Obiano had been on the watchlist of the EFCC prior to the transition on Thursday.

He said, “Obiano has been on our watchlist for sometime now. He had immunity as a governor and that is why we could not arrest him before now.

“Today he lost the immunity and was traveling out of the country before we finally arrested him”.

Strike continues as ASUU NEC fails to suspend action

The industrial action by members of the Academic Sftaff Union of Universities, ASUU, will continue as members of the National Executive Council, NEC, of the union did not consider the option of suspending the action at its meeting which ended in the early hours of Monday in Abuja. Checks by Vanguard showed that the national leadership of the union only briefed the meeting on their interactions and submissions made to the Prof. Nimi Briggs Committee set up the Federal Government to renegotiate the 2009 Agreement with the union. Bianca, wife of late Dim Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu, may have taken a slapping lesson from her late husband, if Reno Omokri’s suggestion is anything to take home. The delegates who stormed the voting arena alleged that electoral officials were assisting the delegates who could not write, contrary to the announcement made earlier by the electoral committee that only one electoral official attached to each state would be allowed. Some delegates from Rivers State have alleged rigging in the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary at the Eagle Square Abuja.
