Man, 36, nabbed for killing son for alleged money ritual in Enugu

The police in Enugu have arrested a 36-year-old man, Chidi Onyishi, for allegedly killing his seven-year-old son, Chimdalu Chidi for money ritual.

Also arrested was a blind pastor, Okeke Eneokwor, for allegedly leading Onyishi into killing his son.

Onyishi, who reportedly killed his son on October 20, reported to the police two days later that his son was missing.

However, following investigation and receipt of credible information, police operatives attached to the Central Police Station (CPS) of Enugu State Command at the weekend, arrested him for allegedly being responsible for the disappearance and murder for money ritual of the little boy.

According to a statement from the police,  Onyishi, who lives on 27 Taylor Avenue, Coal Camp, Enugu, killed the boy and buried him in a shallow grave at the bank of a stream in Abakpa-Nike, Enugu.

It was learnt that after confessing to the crime, Onyishi led police operatives to the arrest of Pastor Eneokwor, said to be blind and resides on Dental Avenue, Trans-Ekulu, Enugu, whom he reported as an accomplice.

The statement signed by spokesman of the State Police Command, Daniel Ndukwe, said the suspect led police operatives and medical team to a stream in Abakpa-Nike, Enugu, where the decomposing corpse of the minor was exhumed from a shallow grave, after the suspect and cohorts, murdered and buried the child on October 20.

MEANWHILE, the Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Lawal, has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Enugu, to conduct a thorough investigation that would lead to the prosecution of everyone found culpable in the act.

He also called on residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding and promptly report criminals and their activities to the nearest Police Station or by calling the Command’s emergency hotlines.
