‘I used my own share for post UTME’ – Yahoo boy confesses

A 19-year-old suspected internet fraudster, Emmanuel David has confessed that he used the proceeds of his internet fraud scam to pay for his post-University Matriculation Test Examination expenses.

David, who was nabbed by the Osun State Police Command, alongside two other teenagers, Chibuike Godspower, 16, and Jesse Izedi, 16, also claimed that he was caught in his first deal worth N315,000.

Emmanuel disclosed that he withdrew the money from the online Union-direct account of his Facebook friend, who operated a Point Of Sales, POS terminal.

According to him, “The victim has a Union bank account, but being a POS operator, he also has a Union direct account, hence, I moved the money from the account to Godspower’s online account after Jedi guessed the victim’s password.

“I used the money to travel to Calabar in Cross River State for my post-UTME in February this year and also paid for my accommodation from the proceeds.”

Meanwhile, one of his accomplices said he was given N10,000 from the proceeds for guessing the password accurately.

“When David told me about his venture and that he had difficulty cracking the password, I told him to try the victim’s date of birth from 1980 downward and it worked. He gave me N10,000 from the proceeds,” he said

The Department of State Services (DSS) has alerted of a sinister plan to stoke violence in parts of Nigeria, particularly the North Central. Peter Afunanya, the Public Relations Officer raised the alarm in a statement on Saturday. The spokesman said the aim was to cause ethno-religious crisis, ignite reprisals and heat up the polity. The DSS said the sponsors have mobilised foot soldiers and held several meetings in and outside the target areas. The agency said students, striking lecturers, labour unions, disgruntled individuals and strategic groups are to be used “to exploit the global energy situation to carry out a mass protest like the ENDSARS.” Afunanya noted that this is despite ongoing efforts by the government to address the issues. ASUU strike: Nwajiuba says FG working on alternative funding structure for universities The Nigerian government is currently working on proposals it can use to resolve the ASUU strike, including a new scheme in which universities implement a different way of earning funds. This was disclosed by Emeka Nwajiuba, former Minister of State for Education and a presidential aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in an  interview  with Channels TV on Sunday. He stated that the implementation of alternative funding structures is a necessity for university autonomy.
