Lecturers, FG’s crisis worsens as ASUU slams Ngige

ASUU President, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke and Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige The crisis between striking Nigerian university lecturers and the Federal Government has worsened,  The PUNCH  learnt. Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities told our correspondent accused the Federal Government of “sabotaging efforts to ensure standard education for Nigerian youths”. The lecturers also expressed anger over comments made by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige. The PUNCH  had reported that ASUU started its ongoing strike on February 14 after the Federal Government failed to meet some of its demands including, the release of revitalisation funds and earned allowances, renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU agreement, and deployment of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution. Festus Keyamo A The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, SAN, has called on Nigerian parents and guardians whose parents are affected by the ongoing shutdown of academic activities in government-owned universities to appeal to the Academic Staff Union of Universities to call off the lingering strike. ASUU had declared a nationwide strike on Monday, February 14, 2022. Nigerian students have described the traumatic situation and humiliation they went through in the hands of Ukrainian officials while trying to escape the country following the Russian invasion of the country. 24-year-old Adetomiwa Adeniyi and 17-year-old Amamchim Steve-Ajufo, both recounted a similar situation to Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC. They were both studying medicine in Ukraine before the war started and they have since returned to Nigeria after fleeing the country.
