Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, carpet FG By Ekene Obi Motorists and commuters were stranded along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday when some students, under the aegis of the National Association of Nigerian Students, South-West zone, protested against the ongoing Academic Staff Union of Universities strike and the fuel scarcity in the country. The protesters, who blocked both sides of the expressway around the Car Park C, Mowe, Ogun State, carried placards with various inscriptions and sang solidarity songs. The All Progressives Congress (APC) has cancelled the proposed emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting scheduled for Thursday, March 17. The decision to cancel the meeting may not be unconnected to the  letter written by President Muhammadu Buhari , which directed Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni to return as the chairman of the caretaker committee. Recall that the acting chairman of the Caretaker Committee and the Governor of Niger State, Abubakar Bello, had summoned the emergency meeting. The emergency meeting was supposed to ratify decisions taken in respect of the forthcoming national convention of the party. The National Secretary of the party, Sen. JAMB shifts mock exams to April 9

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says the 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) mock examination will now hold on April 9, and not April 16 as earlier scheduled. The board made this known in its Weekly Bulletin of the Office of the Registrar on Monday in Abuja. JAMB said that the change was due to the realisation that April 16, earlier scheduled, was an Easter Saturday; a holy Saturday, celebrated by Christians to mark the end of the Lent period before Easter Sunday. Police rescue ‘kidnappers’ from jungle justice in Oyo

The Police Command in Oyo State has rescued two suspects, who allegedly attempted to kidnap a 9-year-old girl. The command made this known in a statement by its spokesman, Adewale Osifeso, on Monday in Ibadan. Osifeso said that the command’s operatives who were on patrol on Sunday, around Alakia Adelubi axis, Ibadan, at about 9.20 a.m. responded to a distress call on the “execution of jungle justice”. The suspects were alleged to have attempted to abduct a 9-year-old female, “Ope”, who was on her way to church. He said that preliminary investigations revealed that the girl was in the company of her mother, one Afolabi Modupe, and other siblings when the two suspects attempted to seize her from her mother’s grip.
