The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called an emergency to discuss the possible postponement of its convention scheduled to day, Saturday.

It was gathered that the main agenda of the meeting is the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to extend deadline for conclusion of party primaries.

Recall that the electoral body had on Friday evening extended the deadline for parties to conduct their primaries, shifting their deadline from June 3 to June 9.

The PDP will during the meeting deliberate on if the extension will give the ruling All Progressives Congress an undue advantage at the presidential election next February.

“We have strong reasons to believe that the extension was announced by INEC today to allow the APC properly digest the outcome of PDP’s convention and pick its candidate accordingly

,” a PDP official with information about the meeting’s agenda told Peoples Gazette.

He said: “We were supposed to have our convention a day apart, but this latest move could give APC a window to shift its convention by additional days just to properly strategise against whoever emerged as flag-bearer at our convention.”

The PDP had scheduled its presidential primary for May 28-29; while the APC picked May 29-30.

“Postponement will be a very difficult pill to swallow at this point,” party member Wale Odulana told The Gazette. “We arrived on Wednesday and we planned everything towards this weekend.”

Warmer autumns could spell bad news for butterflies, suggests study

Credit: Unsplash/CC0 Public Domain New research finds that longer and warmer autumns make it less likely that green-veined white butterflies will survive winter to emerge in spring. The findings are published in the British Ecological Society journal,  Functional Ecology . warmer and longer autumn conditions lost more weight and used more energy than those exposed to milder conditions. Although the butterflies didn't die immediately under the more elevated conditions, the researchers found that those that experienced them were less likely to survive to adulthood the following spring. Dr. Matthew Nielsen at the University of Oulu, who conducted the research at Stockholm University, said: "Climate change is making autumns warmer and last longer, and it was this specific combination of conditions that had the greatest impact on the butterflies in our study. A 19-year-old suspected internet fraudster, Emmanuel David has confessed that he used the proceeds of his internet fraud scam to pay for his post-University Matriculation Test Examination expenses. David, who was nabbed by the Osun State Police Command, alongside two other teenagers, Chibuike Godspower, 16, and Jesse Izedi, 16, also claimed that he was caught in his first deal worth N315,000. Emmanuel disclosed that he withdrew the money from the online Union-direct account of his Facebook friend, who operated a Point Of Sales, POS terminal.
